Skirt Contract Awarded to Checkmate Flexible Engineering
CFE has been awarded the contract to design and build skirts for Umoe’s new SES vessel which will be used to access wind turbines.
This craft is built for high speed and comfort using a deep skirt system. Maintenance makes up about 25% of the total costs of offshore electricity production (including installation and cost of capital) so maximising the opportunities for technician access is a crucial aspect of wind farm economics.
The craft’s design was a winner in the Offshore Wind Accelerator competition being run by the UK Carbon Trust and when commissioned in early 2015 she will be used to support Dong Energy turbines off the Norwegian coast.
